Course Details
The Approved Code of Practice for Cranes (3rd edition 2009) states: All persons operating or working with a crane must hold applicable unit standards as a minimum qualification and preferably hold the relevant National Certificate in Crane operation.
Overhead Gantry Crane Operators must be trained in order to prevent harm to personnel and damage to plant and equipment. The pending H&S Reform Bill places a particular duty of care on PCBU’s to comply with best practices and guidelines.
Course Outline
This course is designed to provide the knowledge to inspect and operate overhead gantry cranes that are controlled by a remote hand held pendant. The Gantry Crane training is conducted using the customers crane within their own work environment.
Course Aim
The learning outcomes of the training provide an understanding of the responsibilities, compliance and company processes required for operating a Gantry Crane. The overhead gantry crane course is designed for operators that lift the same types of . regular shaped loads.
These loads have known weights and are normally
lifted using either slings or eyebolts. The course covers maintenance, pre use checks, operational requirements and skills. On successful completion candidates will be able to demonstrate safe operation including: hazard control, lifting, lowering and attachment of loads using various slinging methods.
Course Duration:
One Day (8 hours). Maximum 6 attendees

3800 Operate a pendant controlled overhead crane and lift and place regular loads. Level 3 Credits 10
Attendance Pre-requisites:
Unit Standard 30072 (6 Months industry experience)
Pre-course reading and practice assessment.N24A
Assessment Methods:
Written/Oral quiz, practical simulations and closed book assessments. Candidates must provide evidence of having operational experience before been awarded the unit standard as per Crane Association requirements.
